As a Safety Coordinator you will be responsible for supporting and promoting a culture of safety throughout the Rural King Transportation Division. This position ensures compliance with all applicable Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and company safety regulations. The Safety Coordinator oversees driver qualification and compliance programs, conducts incident investigations, monitors safety performance metrics, and develops initiatives to reduce risk and improve operational safety.

  • Provide friendly, proactive, and professional internal and external support to others, assisting with inquiries, concerns, and issues promptly and effectively.

  • Maintain compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and applicable federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
  • Monitor and manage driver’s qualification files to ensure all required documentation remains current and compliant.
  • Track and verify Commercial Driver License (CDL) requirements, medical certifications, endorsements, and license status.
  • Monitor Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and electronic logging device (ELD) records.
  • Conduct regular audits of driver files, vehicle records, and transportation safety programs.
  • Stay informed of regulatory changes and communicate updates to leadership and drivers.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of transportation safety programs and policies.
  • Coordinate and conduct safety meetings, training programs, and safety awareness initiatives.
  • Conduct new hire orientations. (on-site/remotely)
  • Review, assign, and document information obtained through electronic logging device (ELD)
  • Maintain safety records, reports, and documentation required by regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in developing corrective action plans to address safety concerns and compliance deficiencies.
  • Monitor safety performance indicators and identify trends requiring attention.
  • Frequent travel to various sites where Transportation Operations are conducted
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Qualities for Success

  • At least 1 year of Transportation Safety experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn Transportation Systems.
  • Comfortable navigating computer systems and software to assist customers or manage activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance, adapting schedules, and plans as necessary.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for learning and personal growth, demonstrated through a track record of actively seeking opportunities for professional development.
  • Ability to remain composed and focused during high-pressure situations, ensuring quality and timely outcomes.

 

Physical Requirements 

 

  • Ability to maintain a seated or standing position for extended durations.
  • Ability to lift, push, and/or pull a minimum of 30 pounds repetitively and 31-50 pounds intermittently.
  • Ability to navigate and access all facilities.
  • Skill to effectively communicate verbally with others, both in-person and via electronic devices.
  • Close vision for computer-related activities.
