POSITION SUMMARY

The Warehouse Team Lead position is a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities on the shipping and receiving dock. This individual will direct a team of dock workers to ensure the safe, timely, and accurate handling of all inbound and outbound shipments. The position is a vital link between the warehouse floor, inventory control, and transportation partners, ensuring a seamless flow of goods while upholding the highest standards of safety and quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  1. Leadership and Team Supervision:
  • Supervise, train, and mentor a team of shipping and receiving clerks and material handlers.
  • Organize daily workflow, assign tasks, and set clear team objectives to meet shipping and receiving deadlines.
  • Monitor team performance, provide constructive feedback, and conduct regular check-ins.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and safety-first work environment.
  • Assist in scheduling staff, managing overtime, and approving paid time off.
  1. Dock Operations Management:
  • Oversee the loading and unloading of all trucks, containers, and trailers, ensuring proper handling techniques are used to prevent damage.
  • Verify the accuracy of inbound and outbound shipments by creating, checking manifests, bills of ladings, purchase orders, and packing lists.
  • Ensure all products are properly labeled, sorted, and staged for storage or shipment.
  • Coordinate with truck drivers, dispatchers, and freight carriers to schedule pickups and deliveries efficiently.
  • Operate and train others on the use of material handling equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
  • May be required to cross train and perform other duties as assigned
  1. Systems and Documentation:
  • Utilize the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and/or ERP system to process transactions, track inventory, and generate shipping documents.
  • Maintain meticulous and accurate records of all shipping and receiving activities.
  • Prepare and process all necessary paperwork, including bills of lading (BOLs), customs forms, and shipping labels.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and assist in physical inventory audits to ensure accuracy.
  1. Safety and Compliance:
  • Champion and enforce all company safety policies and OSHA regulations on the dock.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift safety briefings and equipment inspections.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
  • Investigate and report any accidents, incidents, or safety concerns immediately.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate or bachelor’s degree a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a fast-paced shipping, receiving, or warehouse environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Certified and proficient in operating a forklift and other material handling equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of shipping and receiving processes, logistics, and supply chain principles.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and experience with a Warehouse Management System (WMS) or ERP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Experience with LTL (less-than-truckload) and FTL (full-truckload) shipping coordination preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Supervise Waverly recycling associates.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to lift 65 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all facilities.
  • Must be able to verbally communicate effectively with others (in-person and via electronic devices).
  • Have adequate vision to perform computer tasks.
  • Must be able to lift, bend, carry, and push repetitively.

The pay range for this position is $22.00- $25.00 per hour, with exact compensation determined by factors such as relevant geographic location, education, certifications, experience, job level, shift, and organizational needs.
