What You’ll do

As a Risk and Safety Manager you will play a critical role in protecting our associates, customers, and company assets through comprehensive risk management and safety program oversight. You will lead enterprise-wide safety initiatives, manage complex insurance programs including captive insurance, and drive data-driven decisions to minimize exposure and enhance our safety culture across all retail locations and operations.

  • Lead and oversee a comprehensive safety program across all retail stores and operations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Manage and oversee a complex insurance program including administration and strategic oversight of the captive insurance company.
  • Analyze workers' compensation and general liability claims data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for risk reduction and cost savings.
  • Partner closely with the Claims and Litigation Team to identify emerging trends, assess exposure, and develop proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Create and implement innovative safety initiatives designed to make retail stores and operations safer while fostering a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
  • Oversee and manage the company's Hazmat program, ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Develop, create, and deliver comprehensive safety training content for associates at all levels, including new hire orientation, ongoing education, and specialized training programs.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and assessments of retail locations to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols.
  • Be a leader who will inspire and mentor your team to reach new heights for themselves and Rural King.
  • Create a supportive and empowering work environment for your team.
  • Take ownership of challenging assignments and have the autonomy to implement innovative solutions.
  • Lead and drive impactful projects that directly contribute to the success and growth of Rural King.

Essential Qualities for Success

 

  • At least 8 years of risk management, safety management, and/or insurance experience in retail or similar industry, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Safety Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as ARM (Associate in Risk Management), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or similar credentials strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis software.
  • Working knowledge of claims management systems and risk management software platforms.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn insurance management and safety tracking systems.
  • Comfortable navigating computer systems and software to analyze data and manage risk management activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas, instructions, and information clearly and concisely.
  • Proven experience in effectively supervising and leading a diverse team, guiding them toward achieving department goals and objectives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address challenges, make effective leadership decisions, and quickly identify and resolve safety issues and risk exposures to minimize potential incidents or disruptions.Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop associates, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Experience in presenting information to individuals or groups in a clear, engaging, and persuasive manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport, foster relationships, and collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proven track record of consistently producing error-free work and meeting quality standards, particularly when analyzing complex claims data and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Experience in coordinating and managing complex projects, ensuring smooth workflow and efficient resource allocation to complete projects on time.
  • Proficiency in time management, including the ability to effectively plan, schedule, and allocate resources to meet objectives while managing multiple competing priorities.
  • Ability to remain composed and focused during high-pressure situations, ensuring quality and timely outcomes.

 

Physical Requirements 

 

  • Ability to maintain a seated or standing position for extended durations.
  • Capability to lift 25 pounds periodically.
  • Ability to navigate and access all facilities, including retail stores and warehouse operations.
  • Skill to effectively communicate verbally with others, both in-person and via electronic devices.
  • Close vision for computer-related activities and detailed document review.
  • Ability to travel to retail locations and other company facilities as needed.

The pay range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000 annualized and is bonus eligible. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as relevant geographic location, education, certifications, experience, job level, shift, and organizational needs.
