What You’ll do

As a Paralegal, you will play a critical role in supporting the Claims and Litigation by managing claims, litigation, and corporate matters with a high degree of independence and judgment. This role requires strong analytical and decision-making skills to assess situations, make recommendations, and take actions that directly impact company operations. The paralegal will collaborate with internal and external legal teams, providing expertise in legal research, case management, and document preparation, and will serve as a primary point of contact for legal and regulatory questions from various departments.

 

  • Strategic Legal Support: Independently conduct legal research across multiple jurisdictions and provide analysis to guide counsel in informed decision-making.
  • Litigated Case and Claims Management: Oversee and manage complex claims and litigation files, ensuring accurate and up-to-date documentation from initial intake to closure, including managing deadlines and key dates.
  • Document Preparation and Review: Draft, review, and finalize legal documents such as contracts, agreements, and memoranda. Ensure documents meet legal standards and align with company policies.
  • Autonomous Case Handling: Take responsibility for complex assignments that require a high level of legal acumen and the ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Subpoena Management: Act as the primary respondent for subpoenas, gathering necessary information and coordinating responses.
  • Investigative Support: Lead company investigations and interviews, documenting findings and working within the organization to provide support and recommendations, with counsel, to managers at all levels.
  • Client Consultation: Serve as an initial point of contact for internal clients, advising on regulatory and legal matters with a focus on risk management and compliance.
  • Litigation Support: Work alongside internal and external counsel to manage the response to litigation and administrative proceedings.
  • Project and Calendar Management: Coordinate legal projects and manage scheduling for court dates, mediations, and statutory deadlines.
  • Payment and Financial Processing: Manage payment processing for legal services and settlement funds, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company protocols.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate across departments and be prepared to assist on projects related to real estate, licensing, and internal investigations as needed.
  • Actively participate in learning initiatives offered such as training programs, workshops, and webinars. Leverage these opportunities to acquire new knowledge, refine existing skills, and stay current on the latest developments.
  • Provide friendly, proactive, and professional internal and external support to others, assisting with inquiries, concerns, and issues promptly and effectively.

Essential Qualities for Success

 

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant paralegal experience, preferably with litigation or corporate matters, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification: Paralegal certification preferred.
  • Independent Decision-Maker: Demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks, analyze complex legal situations, and make decisions that influence company policy and strategy. Strong capacity to manage claims files, organize evidence, and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of claims.
  • Organizational Excellence: Highly organized with the capacity to manage multiple claims and project files, keeping all documents and deadlines current.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in MS Office Suite and legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw) with the ability to learn new systems as needed.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Effective communicator who can interact professionally with internal clients, external counsel, and team members, and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
  • Ethics and Confidentiality: Uphold the highest ethical standards and ensure the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Project Leadership: Capable of independently leading projects, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines. Responsible for coordinating tasks with cross-functional teams and overseeing the completion of assigned projects.
